Read & represent

Why Read & Represent ?

Within the state of Delaware, only 28% of Black Students meet the ELA Proficiency levels which is the lowest in comparison to other races. Schools that serve predominantly Black students also have lower Literacy Levels than their counterparts. Reading continues to be integral to students academic success as it is connected to their ability to navigate many other subjects. Although traditional ways such as tutoring and structured guided readings occur within school the goal of this community based practicum is to cultivate excitement and joy around reading through interactive read-alouds, that center main characters and plots that the students may be able to connect with.

We're on a mission to cultivate a love for reading within all of our students.

Our volunteers and their testimonials mean the world to us. Read & Represent is community based, for us, by us and every moment of time invested from our community means the world.
